Converting an Overseas Licence to a NZ licence

Process for Conversion THEORY Course
Step 1 of 2
You'll need to pass a Theory Test. Our Overseas Conversion Theory Courses can help you prepare for the computerised theory test.
Once you've passed the theory test, you'll receive a NZ licence with 'supervisor' conditions.
Session Times:
Morning Classes (Otara Library)
4 Day Classes 2 hours per morning. 10am - 12pm Monday to Thursday
Evening Classes (Otara Library)
4 Day Classes 2 hours per evening. 6pm - 8pm Monday to Thursday
Process for Conversion PRACTICAL Driving Course

Once you have passed your Overseas Conversion Theory Test we recommend you book and pay for your Conversion Practical Driving Test straight away. Make sure you allow for at least 2 weeks or more from the date you passed your theory test. You'll need to book and pay for your driving test online. Book online through the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency website by clicking here. The cost to book the test is $59.90.
Once you've booked your driving test, you can book for our Conversion Practical Driving Course to help you prepare for your driving test. We'll train you on all the essential tasks required for the test including support on the day of your driving test too! Our course cost is $500 but if you've done a theory course with us the discounted cost is $380!
How it works
You get 5 days of training (2 hours per day) with a down-to-earth and awesome instructor to apply the key learnings from the theory and learning additional driving skills required for the driving test. On testing day, we'll also be there to support you by sitting in the back seat to make sure you're ok.

Overseas Licence
Certificate of Validity for your overseas licence (except for some countries. To see if your overseas licence is on the exemptions list, please visit the New Zealand Transport Agency | Waka Kotahi website here to check
Proof of address such as NZ bank statement or letter from IRD that shows your name and current address
Course Cost:
$250 - Conversion Theory Course
$500 - Conversion Practical Course ($380 for student's who completed a DriveStar Theory Course)
Test Fee at VTNZ or AA
$97.80 - Conversion Theory Test
$59.90 - Conversion Practical Driving Test
