

Full Licence Practical Driving Course
NZ Full Licence Course​​​​​
Our practical driving courses are designed to make sure you're prepared and ready for the actual driving test where you'll be required to demonstrate a number of key skills in preparation for your driving test including the Hazard Perception requirements - identifying the hazards while you're driving, where the hazards are, and what you're going to do about it.

​Duration:
5 days (1-1.5 hours per day) At least 2 weeks before your actual driving test.​​​​

​How it works
For the 5 days driver training, you must provide your own vehicle and it must have a current WOF and registration. The brake lights must be working and not damaged, the same applies to the indicator lights too. The horn of your vehicle must be working too.​​​
Must have enough petrol to cover the duration of the course each day.

Course Cost: (we will assess your driving on Day 1)

$500 - New Zealand Full Licence Practical Driving Course ($380 for Past Students who completed a DriveStar NZ theory or practical course)

Test Fee at VTNZ or AA
$98.90 - New Zealand Full Licence Practical Driving Test (If you've done the test before, you'll only need to pay for lower cost resit fee from your third attempt and thereafter.​​
From 27 January 2027, the fee will be $25.90 - no practical test required.
​
With the latest Government announcement regarding the NZ full licence, practical driving tests for the full licence will be ending in January 2027. This means drivers progressing from a NZ restricted licence to a full licence will no longer have to sit the full licence practical driving test.

As a result, the DriveStar NZ full licence practical driving course will be ending at the end of end of 2026 too.

PREPARING FOR THE NEW CHANGES IN JANUARY 2027
In line with the upcoming changes, we will be continuing to offer our full licence course until the end of 2026.

From 27 January 2027, If you're a restricted licence holder and eligible for the NZ full licence, all you need to do is simply apply for it online through the Waka Kotahi website, pay the applicable application fee and wait up to 10 working days for your licence to be delivered.
