DriveStar NZ is operated by Drivestar Limited, NZ Company No. 9168540, NZBN 9429052004216.

By booking, paying for or participating in a DriveStar course, you agree to these Terms & Conditions together with our Student & Learner Policy, Privacy Policy, Digital Product Policy and Changes, Cancellations & Refunds Policy.

Nothing in these Terms removes any rights you have under New Zealand law.

1. Our Courses

1.1 DriveStar currently offers the following services:

1.1.1 NZ Learner Licence Theory Course

1.1.2 Overseas Licence Conversion Theory Course

1.1.3 NZ Restricted Licence Practical Course

1.1.4 NZ Full Licence Practical Course

1.1.5 Overseas Licence Conversion Practical Course

1.2 Course availability, licensing requirements, testing arrangements and official fees may change from time to time.

1.3 The course description and DriveStar price displayed when you book form part of your booking.

2. Prices & Payment

2.1 All DriveStar prices shown on our website are inclusive of GST.

2.2 DriveStar accepts:

2.2.1 Online credit-card payments.

2.2.2 Bank transfers.

2.2.3 Cash.

2.3 Full payment is required before your enrolment is confirmed.

2.4 Full payment must also be received before you can start your course.

2.5 DriveStar does not currently accept deposits or instalment payments.

2.6 A provisional course place may normally be held for up to 7 calendar days while payment is outstanding.

2.7 DriveStar may use a shorter payment deadline where the course starts within 7 days or places are limited.

2.8 If payment is not received by the stated deadline, DriveStar may release your place.

2.9 A GST invoice or receipt will be issued after payment.

2.10 DriveStar bank-account details are provided through approved booking or payment communications and are not published on this page.

3. NZTA, VTNZ & AA Fees

3.1 DriveStar course fees are separate from official NZTA, VTNZ or AA licence application and testing fees unless DriveStar specifically states otherwise.

3.2 Theory learners normally pay their official test fee directly to the relevant licensing agent on testing day.

3.3 Practical learners normally book and pay for their own official practical test through the authorised NZTA booking process.

3.4 DriveStar does not control:

3.4.1 Official licence fees.

3.4.2 Test fees.

3.4.3 Resit fees.

3.4.4 Test availability.

3.4.5 Assessment decisions.

3.4.6 Official licensing requirements.

3.5 Official fees and requirements can change without DriveStar's control.

4. Theory Course Schedule

4.1 Theory courses run from Monday to Thursday.

4.2 Morning classes run from 10:00am to 12:00pm.

4.3 Evening classes run from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

4.4 The official theory test is normally scheduled for Friday morning, subject to testing availability.

4.5 Theory courses are currently available in English or Gagana Samoa, subject to class availability.

4.6 Learners must attend all four theory training days to complete the course.

5. Theory Course Attendance

5.1 Each theory day builds on the learning from the previous day.

5.2 If you cannot attend your normal morning or evening session, you may attend the other session on the same day if:

5.2.1 A place is available; and

5.2.2 DriveStar approves the change.

5.3 If you miss an entire theory course day, you cannot complete that week's course.

5.4 You will normally need to re-enrol into another available weekly course.

5.5 The applicable re-enrolment rules are explained in our Changes, Cancellations & Refunds Policy.

6. Theory Test Readiness

6.1 DriveStar will assess whether we believe you are ready to progress to your official theory test.

6.2 We may consider:

6.2.1 Attendance.

6.2.2 Participation.

6.2.3 Practice results.

6.2.4 Understanding of the road rules.

6.2.5 Overall test readiness.

6.3 Testing may take place at VTNZ or, where available, through VTNZ's Portable Theory Test team at Ōtara Library.

6.4 DriveStar may recommend that you delay your official test if we do not believe you are ready.

6.5 If you accept our recommendation, you may qualify for the discounted re-entry arrangement in our Changes, Cancellations & Refunds Policy.

6.6 If you choose to sit the official test against DriveStar's recommendation, you accept responsibility for that decision and any further course or test fees.

7. Practical Courses

7.1 The current DriveStar practical course fee is $500 including GST.

7.2 Each practical course includes exactly five individual sessions.

7.3 Each session is scheduled for one hour.

7.4 An instructor may extend a session up to 1.5 hours where:

7.4.1 Additional time is useful for the skill being taught; and

7.4.2 No later booking is affected.

7.5 Additional time is not guaranteed.

7.6 The five sessions should normally be completed within one training week.

7.7 Sessions should preferably be completed on consecutive or back-to-back days.

7.8 Practical training is currently based at VTNZ ABC Manukau unless DriveStar advises otherwise.

8. Your Vehicle

8.1 Unless DriveStar confirms otherwise, practical learners must provide their own vehicle.

8.2 Your vehicle must:

8.2.1 Have a current WOF where legally required.

8.2.2 Have current vehicle licensing/registration.

8.2.3 Be clean and tidy.

8.2.4 Have safe tyres.

8.2.5 Have working and undamaged indicators.

8.2.6 Have working brake lights.

8.2.7 Have a working horn.

8.2.8 Have sufficient fuel.

8.2.9 Have no known safety defect.

8.2.10 Display legally compliant L plates where required.

8.3 Only the learner and DriveStar instructor may be in the vehicle during practical training.

8.4 Children are not permitted in the vehicle during training.

8.5 Friends, whānau members or other passengers are not permitted.

8.6 Cameras, phones, dash cameras or other recording equipment must not be recording unless DriveStar has specifically authorised the recording.

9. Lateness

9.1 Learners should arrive ready to begin at the scheduled time.

9.2 If you are less than 15 minutes late, DriveStar will make reasonable efforts to continue the session.

9.3 The session may still finish at the original scheduled finishing time.

9.4 If you are more than 15 minutes late, the session may be treated as missed.

9.5 Each practical session represents $100 of the $500 course fee.

9.6 Where the instructor's reserved time cannot reasonably be reallocated, the $100 session value may be forfeited.

9.7 Your remaining practical sessions will stay active.

9.8 A replacement session may be booked for $100 including GST, subject to availability.

10. Safety

10.1 Safety always comes first.

10.2 You must not participate in practical training if you are unsafe to drive because of:

10.2.1 Alcohol.

10.2.2 Illegal drugs.

10.2.3 Medication.

10.2.4 Illness.

10.2.5 Serious fatigue.

10.3 Learners must follow reasonable instructor safety directions.

10.4 An instructor may refuse to start, pause or stop a lesson where continuing would be unsafe.

10.5 DriveStar does not accept threatening, violent, abusive, discriminatory, sexually inappropriate or seriously disruptive behaviour.

11. Identification & Eligibility

11.1 Learners are responsible for meeting the current legal eligibility requirements for their licence or test.

11.2 DriveStar will assist with checking eligibility and documents.

11.3 Final licensing decisions are made by NZTA and authorised licensing agents.

11.4 Where an original document is required, a screenshot or photograph is not accepted as a substitute.

12. Learners Under 18

12.1 DriveStar accepts learners who meet the legal minimum age for the relevant licence pathway.

12.2 For a learner under 18, a parent or caregiver must accept DriveStar's Terms.

12.3 Where a school or other organisation refers a learner under 18, appropriate parent/caregiver consent must also have been obtained.

12.4 Public photography or video involving a learner under 18 requires appropriate learner and parent/caregiver consent.

13. No Guarantee of Passing

13.1 DriveStar provides education, coaching and test preparation.

13.2 Completing a DriveStar course does not guarantee that you will pass your official test.

13.3 Official results are determined by the authorised testing organisation or testing officer.

14. DriveStar Content

14.1 DriveStar's online learning content, questions, presentations, graphics, videos, course materials and branding remain the property of DriveStar or the relevant rights holder.

14.2 Screenshots are not permitted without approval.

14.3 Photography or recording of protected DriveStar content is not permitted.

14.4 Copying, downloading, sharing or publishing protected DriveStar content without permission is not permitted.

15. Complaints

15.1 Where appropriate, please raise your concern with your instructor first.

15.2 If your concern is not resolved, contact DriveStar directly.
